2024 in Review: Travel

I am one of many people that enjoys travel, and I’m also one of a slightly smaller population that enjoys the art of the travel hack and of compiling personal travel statistics. So here is my annual recap of the year’s travel with highlights of the hacks and stats. Please also see my highlights from the week Naomi and I spent in Europe in July!

Air Travel Stats and Status

2017 had been the previous record holder for miles I’d flown in the year (thanks in large part to our honeymoon to Kauai), but 2024 broke it! In 2024, I flew a total of 19,610 miles across 14 segments. Six flights on American Airlines, six flights on United Airlines, and two flights on Icelandair. I touched 11 airports: the familiar Chicago-O’Hare (ORD), Washington-Dulles (IAD), and Washington-National (DCA); first time in several years to Atlanta (ATL); and my first times ever at Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), Charlotte (CLT), Detroit (DTW), Keflavik (KEF), Mexico City (MEX),and San Francisco (SFO).

Here are two consolidated view of all my flights in 2024; above from OpenFlights and to the left from Flighty. View all my personal flight stats — and start tracking your own! — at OpenFlights.

Hotel Stats and Status

By October, I was able to earn top-tier Globalist status in the World of Hyatt program for the second time (last had it for calendar year 2022). That status is valid all the way through February of 2026, and I was glad to have it for our visit to Naomi’s family in Atlanta in November where we had a comfortable stay at the Hyatt Centric Midtown Atlanta Association (where we were upgraded to a junior suite).
