Eric Joseph Rubio, originally from Chicago and now based in the nation’s capital, is an accomplished performing arts management professional and arts advocate.

He is currently serving as Director of Finance and Administration for the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. He is a member of the sixth and current senior cohort of Sphinx LEAD and was named one of Musical America’s “Top 30 Professionals of the Year” for 2024.

Previously, he held management roles with The Washington Chorus, a two-time Grammy-winning symphonic chorus serving the National Capital Region; Spark the Journey, a mentoring nonprofit in DC; Seraphic Fire, the Miami-based, Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble; Calvary Memorial Church of Oak Park, Illinois; and the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music.

Prior to assuming a management career, Eric served for three years as a middle school band director, in both public and private schools, in Chicago’s western suburbs. Eric holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wheaton College (Illinois); further coursework includes studies in nonprofit management at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. He has been active as a church musician in Florida, Illinois, and Virginia and is a freelance writer across a wide variety of platforms.

In addition to his professional engagements, Eric has devoted time in service to the arts world in every place he has called home. He presently serves as co-president on the board of directors of Embracing Arlington Arts, an advocacy organization, and has served on the executive and nominating committees of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Overture Council, a young professionals organization, and as a grant panelist with Chorus America and the state arts agencies of Florida and Virginia.

Eric is married to Naomi Attaway and the couple lives in Arlington, Virginia, with their American bulldog, Weasley. In their spare time, Eric and Naomi enjoy cooking, reading, and traveling.
